The Keyport Slide is already a rad gadget to begin with, being a slidable port for your keys. A recent variant even included a USB stick. Still more recent is the Keyport Slide that comes with a LED flashlight–it’s pictured below. Now if it only had a 3-inch blade you’ll be ready to go on secret missions.
According to the official site, the Keyport Slide is cooler than most pocket accoutrements by virtue of its size: smaller than an iPod, your credit card, and your car keys. But what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with utility. Simply put, the Keyport is a handy tool to have for any occasion. No wonder they attached a LED light on it. Below is a decent write up from the Keyport blog about why they’re better than a set of jangling, dangling keys on a chain:
“At Keyport, we are not immune to the $80 key holder comment. We give considerable thought to our pricing, and it is our sincere hope that all of our customers feel that the product’s value far exceeds the dollar cost. However, we are not sure that comparing the cost of a fully loaded Keyport to a traditional keychain is a true apples-to-apples comparison. It’s a bit like saying, ‘I can’t believe you purchased an iPhone when my rotary phone makes phone calls too and didn’t cost me $299.’ ”
The Keyport Slide that has a LED upgrade is available for an extra $9.99 on top of its $80 retail price.

At first glance you’re prone to mistake the Powertrekk for a game controller—an ugly game controller. But it’s not. As depicted by the evidence below, it’s the ultimate gadget charger for any possible gadget (provided the gadget has a USB port.)
Powertrekk is designed and built for the outdoors, which explains its hydrogen fuel cell coupled with a battery pack. The sweet part is both can charge each other, meaning this baby can juice a lot of your gadgets. The Powertrekk would probably be a life saver if you’re the type of person who falls into a crevasse and gets their hand stuck under a rock. Worse, your precious iPhone is out of juice so out comes the Powertrekk and ta-da!
Okay, so maybe James Franco does deserve critical acliam for his role in 127 Hours. Movies aside, Powertrekk is a must for the gadget-inclined who move around a lot with their essential electronics.
Despite its attractive qualities, there’s no word on pricing yet.
With the economy not being at its best at the moment, it makes perfect sense if you were to do your best to save up wherever and whenever you can, and Cisco has stepped in to help you do just that with their very own coin collector and counter known as the Digi-Piggy. Yup, this is no porcelain porker that needs to be thrown onto the ground or struck with a hammer in order to get to the goodies inside when you need a little bit extra dough at that moment in time.
The pig’s snout itself will feature an innovative digital readout, where Digi-Piggy is alert enough to count all American coins while making sure that a running total is kept, regardless of the order or the value of the coins inserted. Sounds like the perfect tool for little ones to start learning on the value of money as well as instilling such a discipline in their lives.
Of course, college students might also pick up a Digi-Piggy for themselves since it is the perfect fodder for those who pay plenty of visits to the nearest Laundromat or are a huge fan of vending machines that require coins. Of course, those who frequent arcades or have to feed parking meters on a regular basis would do well to bring home the Digi-Piggy.
So far, we do know that Cisco intends for the Digi-Piggy to hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the year, where it will be available via major chains including Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond and others. Made out of highly-durable plastic, the Digi-Piggy is destined for longevity, functionality and safety. Accessing your savings is a snap with its twist-off lid, and too bad we do not know just how much something like this will cost just yet. As long as it helps us save money, we guess, and hopefully the Return On Investment will happen sooner rather than later.

If you’re in college right now and have ever heard any news flash from the head office about weather or whatever, you know how fast word gets around. IntelliGuard had a really awesome idea to keep students and staff informed about school emergencies within 15-20 seconds of it being issued. It’s called the RAVENAlert Keychain. This can be both a great way to get word out if there is a threat of any kind, but also kind of silly since there is usually a mass text that is sent out from the school.
It’s a little keychain that has a wireless network that will broadcast news, instructions, and updates. While I know personally that we don’t really need these as students, there are likely protective parents who want to keep their kids safe. Not all students sign up for texts for school updates, and a lot of times emails for delays and bad weather often are sent out on email alphabetically. When there are several tens out thousands of students, and you have a “T” last name, you might not get that email about campus closing at 1pm until hours later. There’s a good chance that this little keychain would be very helpful, but if you just sign up for the services the school provides, you should be fine.
