Remember in November last year, Microsoft announced that it would be developing a new version of the Kinect that’s been designed for computers running Windows? Well, we finally have a release date for when the gadget will arrive. Today at Microsoft’s final CES Keynote, the company announced that the Kinect for Windows will be available starting on February 1st, and will have a suggested retail price of $249. 12 countries will get the new Kinect first – the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain and United Kingdom.

The Kinect SDK (software development kit) will continue to be free, and it will get updates from Microsoft over time. The Kinect for Windows computers will feature some differences such as a shorter USB cable, and the ability for the camera to track objects as close as 50cm in front of it without losing accuracy or precision – which makes using the Kinect on a desktop computer a more viable option. Anybody planning on picking one up?

TRENDnet has just rolled out a spanking new 450 Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter (also known by the model number TEW-684UB), where it is touted to be the first ultra-high performance 450 Mbps wireless USB adapter in the world. The 450 Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter will be able to upgrade both your desktop and laptop to the highest wireless performance that is available today.

Currently, most computers purchased that come with integrated wireless are more often than not outfitted with either 150 Mbps Wireless N or even slower 54 Mbps Wireless G technology, where they are the bottleneck culprits when you’re connected to a 450 Mbps router. This is what TRENDnet intends to reverse with the TEW-684UB.

Boasting of advanced Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology alongside a trio of spatial streams per antenna are able to generate a maximum theoretical wireless throughput of 450 Mbps. You can quickly connect to a 450 Mbps 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz wireless network with but a touch of a button, apart from the convenience of one-touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).

The inclusion of a 3-foot USB extension cable also makes it easier for you to strategically place the adapter in your home or office, while TRENDnet has also thrown in the WMM Quality of Service (QoS) technology that will do its bit to prioritize gaming, Internet calls, and video streams. LEDs are conveniently located on the front of the adapter to convey device status.

According to Pei Huang, President and CEO of TRENDnet, “In the highly competitive Networking market space, it is fairly difficult to be the first to market with new technology. Thanks to the dedication of all TRENDnet employees, we have brought to market, not only the first 450 Mbps USB adapter, but also the first 450 Mbps router, 450 Mbps Ethernet adapter, and 450 Mbps access point. Now for the first time, TRENDnet gives consumers the opportunity to network all of their devices to a high speed 450 Mbps network.”

If you want to up the ante for wireless performance in your home or office, then the 450 Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter can be yours for a highly affordable $79.99.

About a year ago, we covered some concept products known as Cool Leaf, a keyboard with a mirrored surface. Generally, I don’t have much confidence in concept technology, but it is refreshing to see that Japanese company Minebea actually is going to sell the Cool Leaf keyboard.

The Mirrored keyboard is possible as the reflective surface is essentially one big capacitive touch panel. Though you may not hear any clickity-click of the keys, it has haptic feedback to give you a little vibration when you hit the keys.

One of the best parts is the easy clean option. All the user has to do is give it a good wipe, and it is clean. No more dust getting caught in between the keys anymore!

Now for the price. The Cool Leaf is about $318, and will be on sale in Japan for about $318. The Minebea Cool Leaf keyboard is only available in a Japanese variant and only works with a Windows computer, but it will be released with an English, German, French, and Italian layout later in the summer.

I am wondering if the Φ-Calculators and Φ-Remotes will be available soon. Those are calculators and TV remote controls that have that same mirrored surface. Perhaps this reflective look could be a new standard of accessories.

If you work in an office where you have lots of people sitting very close to you it may drive you crazy that most mice and keyboards are so noisy. If you want a mouse that makes no noise at all, that can be hard to find. Every mouse I have ever used has made clicking sounds when you hit a button or scroll the mouse wheel.

A company called Nexus has a new mouse called the Silent Mouse that has a new patented switch for the button that makes no sound when used. The mouse is also wireless with 2.4GHz tech for good range and low latency. The mouse uses a tiny nano receiver.

I really like the nano style receivers since you can plug them into a notebook and just leave them. The mouse has 1000 or 1600 dpi sensitivity with a switch to choose. That is more than your average mouse offers at 800dpi and will be welcome by users that have big screens on their computer.

Verizon Wireless have teamed up with Novatel Wireless to roll out the Verizon USB551L modem. Obviously, Verizon Wireless will offer the data plan, while the hardware part is offered by Novatel Wireless, where you are able to make an order on March 31 in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores as well as online if you do not want to drive out. The USB551L is said to offer businesses and consumers the download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps, not to mention upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps under the umbrella of their 4G LTE Mobile Broadband coverage areas.

The USB551L is extremely portable, being small enough to fit in the palm of the hand. Of course, since it plays nice with the 4G spectrum, you would expect this to be a high performance USB modem, where it offers the right kind of mobile connectivity for you to check email, download rich multimedia content and stay connected to family, friends and coworkers in a jiffy.

If you do a whole lot of traveling, then chances are pretty good you will from time to time, venture outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, but no worries about that – chances are you won’t be too disappointed with the Verizon Wireless 3G network that will come in to save the day. Some of the features found in the Verizon USB551L include its form factor which is cCompact and lightweight, boasting advanced proprietary antenna technologies that will maximize data throughput and operating range.

You will be able to pick up the Verizon USB551L for $99.99 a pop after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement on a 4G Mobile Broadband plan, of course. Bear in mind that it might get a wee bit more expensive that what you’re used to, since the 4G LTE Mobile Broadband plan starts from $50 for a monthly access pass of 5GB.

Genius, a name that has become familiar for those who budget friendly peripherals that work well enough for years on end without requiring an upgrade too soon. Sure, they will not make an impact like how Razer would in terms of gaming, but for functionality on a shoe string pay packet, you won’t really go wrong with Genius’ offerings.

This time around, we have a couple of wireless mice for your perusal, where they are the Traveler 6000 wireless mouse and Traveler 6000 Classic wireless mouse. Already up for sale in both the US and Canada, they were specially designed to be of ambidextrous use – that means, they can see action on either hand, with the Traveler 6000 wireless mouse proving that user-friendliness and detailed design are Genius’s tradition.

The Genius Traveler 6000 wireless mouse will feature a smooth and accurate 1200 dpi optical engine, and won’t be out of place when connected to a machine of your choice (desktop, notebook or netbook, it doesn’t really matter) via a super small Pico USB receiver. This receiver is so tiny that you can always leave it plugged in even when you’re moving around the office, without worrying over your head whether the receiver will bend or break. Then again, you will find that most of the high end wireless mice these days have extremely tiny USB receivers, so Genius follows them in this suit.

With an energy-saving and long-range 2.4GHz RF wireless frequency, users will have the flexibility of uninterrupted wireless connectivity, and there is even a storage compartment thrown into the mouse itself to hold the Pico receiver when not in use. To further conserve power, an on/off switch is available to make sure no battery juice is wasted on your travelers. An AAA alkaline battery is thrown into the mix to help you get started right out of the box.

As for the Genius Traveler 6000 Classic, this is a special edition model that boasts of an elegant top cover design which you can see above.

The tablet PC is one of the most significant and innovative contributions to the portable computer industry to have appeared in recent years, with the iPad from Apple especially capturing the consumers’ imagination. As the technology has advanced, different solutions are coming out by the month to fill a gap in the market for the business user in particular; looking for flexible, stylish, innovative and powerful machines that can be used both on the go and in the office.

Tablet PCs can save any business significant overheads, increasing productivity in the workforce and carrying lower administrative costs than conventional PCs. But the main attraction of tablet computers is their portability. They are built so robustly, often incorporating separate shock absorbers for the CPU, that they can be used from deserts and mountains to war zones, so the average business loser can be sure his or her precious data is well protected against mishaps.

News in tech carries all the latest news on tablet PCs designed to be used in a corporate environment rather than in the home, and geared towards business production rather than entertainment.

You can scribble down notes and assignment details with the supplied stylus or digital pen on the trot, as and when the need arises, without having to look for a flat surface to set up on. When you’re away from the office you can connect up to colleagues at the press of a button and share notes through integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, and in many ways tablet PCs are like the old clipboard and pen in that they can be used in all normal situations to take notes and memos that can then be developed and shared in digital format.

Tablets possess the full power of an average modern desktop and can be used as such when you’re in the office, but can also be taken with you when you’re off on client visits or at meetings so you need never be without your data, even being fully connected and empowered whilst travelling as most trains and airports have internet access now. Mobile internet fills the gap where this is not the case.

HP Elite Notebook

The HP Elite Notebook series of tablet PCs are typical of the combination of power and style that is available to the modern business user with precious little time to spare and seemingly always on the move. This stylish tablet PC is packed with all the features needed for powerful computing applications and uses default HP Mobile Broadband to keep you plugged into the web and communicating with colleagues and clients 24/7.

HP Probook

The HP Probook is slightly cheaper but still packs a powerful business punch with its slim line design and superb business functionality. HP has long been a leader in the field, and the Probook brings data protection, internet access and a whole raft of business-oriented applications to your fingertips in a lightweight and aesthetically pleasing package.

I’m not certain why Hewlett-Packard chose to unveil these new computers after the hubbub of the Super Bowl, but they have a definite plan for these new style of computers.

The HP TouchSmart 610 Consumer PC and the HP TouchSmart 9300 Elite Business PC have the unique design that you see here, which enables the user to recline and dip the curved screen at a 60-degree angle. Each of them have a 23-inch 1080p HD display with a multitouch screen.

The 610 has Intel or AMD and Intel processors with Hulu, Netflix, Rhapsody, as well as Twitter. It also features 16GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, Blu-Ray optical drive, and Beats Audio Speakers. There is even a model that includes R.U.S.E., a strategy game by Ubisoft.

As for the 9300, it has Intel Sandy Bridge processors, Windows 7, 160GB solid-state drive, and 2 Megapixel webcam. My Source also says that the 9300 Elite is made for “hospitality, retail, and health care” industries in mind. I’m not certain what that means.

As of now, we know that the TouchSmart 610 will arrive in the United States on Wednesday this week for a price of $899.99. As for the TouchSmart 9300 Elite, it should be out in May, but we don’t have a price as yet.
