Apple will refresh its MacBook Air line of computers on July 19th, iClarified reported on Wednesday. We began to suspect the update was imminent when early reports suggested that global supplies for the computer were in short supply in late May. Those reports were solidified earlier this week when stock of the MacBook Air at Best Buy and Amazon was depleted.

The device is expected to pack the new Thunderbolt I/O port in place of DisplayPort, Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors, and the brand new OS X Lion operating system. 9to5 Mac said that Apple will likely offer Intel’s 1.8GHz Intel Core i7, 1.7GHz Core i7, and the 1.7GHz Core i5 in its new machines. We love the current design of the MacBook Air, and rumor has it that there won’t be any hardware tweaks. We suppose that could mean the rumored anodized black version will never see the light of day. The good news is the long wait is nearly over.

According to the saying, good morning is very rare. But we have to wake up every day and if it is a working day – it is better not to delay this process. Of course, in this case we need an alarm clock. And although now they are built into almost all gadgets, it is unlikely that they can be as effective as a rocket. So let’s see.

This is an alarm clock, made in the form of rockets. And when it comes time to wake up, you hear not just a sound of the alarm, but a countdown. Blinking red LEDs, the rocket will tell you that before taking off has remained 10, 9, 8…
And if you do not wake up and do not disable the alarm clock – the start will take place. After that nasty voice the alarm clock can be disabled, only returning it in its place. But do not worry for the furniture. First you can “check” in advance where the rocket launches, and secondly its nose is made of a soft material to reduce possible damage from falling, say on the owner’s favorite notebook.
For the efficiency it is desirable to place this alarm clock outside the zone to which you can reach out your hand from the bed.
You can buy this gadget for about $29.

Asus Company pleased its fans and regular customers with another novelty. Ultrathin notebook Asus Fold / Unfold, was demonstrated to the public at the exhibition CeBIT 2009, and elaborated by a group of designers from Korea, France and Italy.

The main advantage of the new notebook Fold / Unfold is a convenience in handling the keyboard. After opening the keyboard, you’ll see how smoothly it goes back, rises over the case and takes the working position under a small bias. Know-how design of the keyboard allows working with the laptop Fold / Unfold more comfortably and efficiently.

Also, a small slope of the keyboard in relation to the case will allow making more space for better cooling of the notebook and electronic filling.

The price of the ultrathin laptops Fold / Unfold ranges from 1000-1500 dollars.

If you want to obtain the novelty as soon as possible, please be patient. Ultrathin laptop Fold / Unfold will be on the network free sale in the third quarter of 2009.

A lot of interesting news is expected in the next two days. E3 conference dedicated to the computer and video games and everything concerned with it has opened. Particularly, there will be officially presented a new version of the portable game consoles PSP Go. Tomorrow starts the same exhibition Computex, dedicated to electronics and IT. And we already have the first news from there.

During the exhibition was noticed a smartbook ASUS Eee PC prototype, running on Snapdragon-based chipsets with a frequency of 1 GHz and managed by OS Android. But what is most interesting – the system works without a cooler.

Low power, secured by a new chipset Snapdragon, not only helps to extend the work of the gadget, but to abandon the active cooling. This smartbook is able to not only to provide easy surfing on the network, but also play HD video with a resolution of 720p.

Also soon will be released a model with better graphics and chipsets Snapdragon on 1.3 GHz and 1.5 GHz with dual processors. Let’s hope that in the coming days we’ll have more details describing the smartbook.

The idea of folding keyboards is already quite old; the idea of a folding gadget MID – a little new, but it is quite possible that in future it would be realized. And the word «folding» in this case does not necessarily imply to folding the two halves, like with modern mobile phones.

The concept that we offer, is embodied by Edward Ballisterom, Doctor of Science, working in close collaboration with Intel. MID announced that Dragonfly can be folded four times, and fit in your pocket, but when expanded it will become a notebook.

The gadget will work on the basis of Moorestown chip from Intel, a major operating system called Windows XP. But the installation of two systems (one of which will be Linux) is also possible.

Scientist argues that he plans to install the gadget in two-LCD displays with LED backlighting, but it will have to be postponed until the next-generation devices. But the battery, with which the gadget will “live” all day, is ready, because the release of the first devices is scheduled by the end of the year.

Of course, Mr Ballistera can be seriously wrong, considering the facts that the manufacturer of Dragonfly have not yet been defined (and certainly not named), and a developer cannot yet demonstrate a working prototype. Nevertheless, working on such an idea is worth our attention.

A new version of the prototype of one of the most anticipated projects has been released. CrunchPad «pill» photos and video, which demonstrate some features of the notebook are already in the Internet. The creators promise that fully functional prototype will be tested in a few weeks. We want to remind you that CrunchPad is based on an Intel Atom processor and has 12-inch touch screen, operational gigabytes and 4 gigabytes of internal memory, camera and a USB-port.

Software components: operating system is based on Linux and a browser is based on Webkit. The browser opens immediately while loading the notebook, there is no desktop itself. In the new version of the prototype the developers have moved from the plastic shell to aluminum. This will increase its price, but the board will be thinner – it will have the thickness of 18 millimeters. The creators promise to give more information in July. It is possible that this will be a full presentation of CrunchPad. At the same time, we are likely to learn its exact price, which, as the founder of the company-producer Michael Arringtona thinks, will to exceed $ 300.

Even a couple of years ago, few people knew the term «notebook», but now it is so widely distributed that the term «inventors» decided not to defend all the rights to its use. Now the continued miniaturization and convergence of technologies make us use new terms for all types of emerging gadgets. And one of them is smartbook.

For the first time it was used for Computex in Taiwan, which described the prototype gadgets, resulting from the joint work of Freescale and Qualcomm. But soon it is possible to expect the spread of the term referring to all the gadgets that can be placed in a niche between notebooks and smartphones.

By technical characteristics smartbooks will a little concede notebooks, but they will be able to work in the networks of cellular communication and in wireless computer networks. The use of special platforms with low power consumption should increase working time and will allow refusing from coolers (which, in turn, lead to more subtle designs). The main operating system of smartbooks should be a special assembly based on Linux (the primary candidate, in my opinion, is the Android).

Several conceptual smartbook designs were developed at College of Art and Design Savannah. Who knows, maybe in the near future they will become the most common form factors of new gadgets.

The company Dell has released a series of Dell Latitude 2100 notebooks, which is specially created for pupils and students. It is a pity that in Russia the computer in the classroom or lecture is still considered a gimmick, and sometimes is even puzzling teachers. How does the “academic” Dell Latitude 2100 differ from the usual notebook?

The first thing you will notice is a bright range of plastic cases; there are colors for any adolescent tastes. The engineers did not forget a very active life of adolescents: Dell Latitude 2100 case is fixed with rubber inserts that protect the gadget from hits and (possibly) falling. There is even a carrying handle!

Dell Latitude 2100 Keyboard protects your computer from getting sprays and moisture and the keys are covered with special anti-bacterial layer (optional). The area of the keyboard is more than the usual 10-inch, track pad also increased, but the track pad buttons – are separate (this is very rare for a notebook).
Other characteristics of Dell Latitude 2100 “school” notebook: the 10 “1024 × 576 screen, Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, WiFi, Bluetooth, card reader, 2 USB ports.

A special “bait” is designed for system administrators and school principals: there is a special mobile station on a trolley for Latitude 2100. It can simultaneously replace and charge 24 notebooks and is both a router and a wireless docking station. All connections via LAN-cable can upgrade and be managed simultaneously.

Company Asus officially confirmed the release of Eee PC 1004DN, perhaps the most strange recently created notebook. While the largest computer equipment developers are working on cloud-computing SSD, and wireless transfer technology, Asus makes a very strange DVD-drive notebook.

Despite the fact that DVD is still the most common removable media, this technology is considered a very old one. Notebook is a carrier of the most developing technologies and trends in the computer culture, and the antediluvian optical drive. It also looks strange, because a notebook is a small compact device with minimal weight and energy consumption. Meanwhile, the DVD is the best way to turn off the battery in a very short period of time.

Nevertheless, Eee PC 1004DN will certainly find its buyer. It looks quite worthy: nice keyboard with “separate” keyboard buttons (like Eee PC 1000HE), neat 10-inch display, matt aluminum case. It can be considered a business-class notebook.
The Eee PC 1004DN has Intel Atom N280 CPU 1.66GHz processor, Intel GN40 chipset with integrated 2GB card GMA 4500M, up to 120GB HDD operational system, Bluetooth, WiFi N, Webcam 1.3MPiks embedded biometric scanner, and even slot ExpressCard.
Eee PC 1004DN weighs approximately half kilograms, along with the battery, which works up to 6 hours without recharging.
The price or release date of Asus Eee PC 1004DN has not been announced yet, most likely it will appear on the shelves by the end of the spring and it will cost approximately $ 600-700.
